# Externally managed plans

Bango DVM™ supports externally managed billing plans, allowing content providers to retain control of subscription pricing, billing schedules, and lifecycle management.

Unlike standard Bango-managed billing plans, where DVM calculates charges and renewal dates, externally managed billing plans use information supplied directly by the content provider. This supports subscriptions with variable pricing, free trials, introductory discounts, add-ons, and flexible billing periods.

## How it works

When a reseller creates a Consumer Offer, Bango DVM™ creates a billing plan that is progressively updated with information received from the content provider, including subscription status, pricing, and renewal dates.

The content provider initiates charges, which Bango DVM™ converts into the standard DVM charge format and routes to the reseller through the existing Billing and Charging capability. Charges can be processed through synchronous authorization requests or asynchronous notifications.

Resellers can access subscription and billing information through existing DVM APIs, including activation dates, renewal schedules, previous charges, and applicable promotional periods.

The content provider remains the source of truth for billing calculations and subscription renewal dates.
