# Overview

> Understand the Partner model, partnership journey, roles, Regional Entities, and user access in DVM.

Partner Management defines who participates in DVM, how Partners can participate, and the environments through which they connect.

A **Partner** is the stable identity of a business, operating company, or brand in DVM. Partners can act in different roles, work with other Partners on subscription opportunities, and connect their systems through Regional Entities.

## From Partner to partnership

DVM brings Partners together to create and operate subscription propositions.

When two Partners choose to pursue an opportunity together, this documentation refers to that as a **partnership**. Partnership describes the business opportunity and working relationship between the Partners; you do not manage a separate partnership object in DVM.

You can imagine a model of the partnership progressing through five stages:

      <td>**Form the partnership**</td>
      <td>Identify who to work with and establish shared intent. Partner Discovery supports this stage.</td>
    </tr>

    <tr>
      <td>**Shape the offer**</td>
      <td>Define the proposition that will be made available to consumers. See [Offer Management](/offer-management/overview).</td>
    </tr>

    <tr>
      <td>**Enable and launch**</td>
      <td>Configure access, technical connectivity, integration, and testing before going live.</td>
    </tr>

    <tr>
      <td>**Run and improve**</td>
      <td>Operate the live proposition using capabilities such as Dashboard, Care, reporting, and reconciliation.</td>
    </tr>

    <tr>
      <td>**Grow the partnership**</td>
      <td>Develop new offers and further opportunities with existing or new Partners.</td>
    </tr>
  </tbody>
</table>

Partners can enter this journey at different points and DVM supports Partners in that journey.

## Partner structure

A Partner can optionally have child Partners where a real business hierarchy needs to be represented.

## Partner roles

A **Partner role** describes how a Partner can participate in DVM.

The primary roles are:

* **Reseller** — makes subscription offers available to consumers.
* **Content Provider** — provides products that Resellers can include in offers.

A Partner can hold more than one role.

## Regional Entities

A **Regional Entity** is the technical representation of a Partner in one region and one environment.

For example, the same Partner can have separate Regional Entities for Sandbox, EU Production, and US Production.

## Users and access

Human access is managed at **Partner + Environment** level.

A user's role controls what they can do in DVM for that Partner and environment. Users do not need to select individual Regional Entities to use Partner-level applications such as Dashboard or Care.
