# Partner roles

> Understand how Reseller and Content Provider roles describe how a Partner participates in DVM.

A **Partner role** describes how a Partner participates in DVM.

The primary Partner roles are **Reseller** and **Content Provider**. A Partner can hold one or both roles.

## Reseller

A Reseller makes subscription offers available to consumers through its own channels.

The Reseller shapes the offer, presents it to consumers, and uses DVM to support the subscription lifecycle.

## Content Provider

A Content Provider provides digital products that Resellers can include in offers.

The Content Provider defines the products and service levels it makes available through DVM.

## A Partner can hold both roles

A Partner can act as a Reseller in one opportunity and a Content Provider in another.

Partner roles describe what the business can do in DVM; they do not define a user's permissions.

## Partner role versus user role

These are different concepts:

| Term | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Partner role** | What the business can do in DVM, such as Reseller or Content Provider |
| **User role** | What an individual person is permitted to do when signed in to DVM |
