# Payment provider overview

> Overview of the inbound and outbound APIs used for payment-provider integration.

For payment provider partners, Bango Payments has two API directions.

## API directions

| API | Implemented by | Purpose |
| - | - | - |
| Bango to Payment Provider | Payment provider | Receives requests from the Bango Platform and returns responses. |
| Payment Provider to Bango | DCB Payments | Receives requests from the payment provider and returns responses. |

Both requests and responses are expressed as **actions**. Each action has:

* An action type
* A type-specific payload

This gives both API directions a consistent vocabulary of messages while leaving room for extension.
